Shreyas wins Silver Medal at ESCC 2016

Shreyas Royal achieved a well deserved Silver Medal in the U7 category of the 2016 European Schools Chess Championships (ESCC), held in Halkidiki, Greece. This was Shreyas’ first international tournament and despite starting with a ranked position of 16th, with no FIDE rating, he was unbeaten during the 9 rounds, and finished with a score of 7/9.

About the Championship

The Championship is organised in 12 different age categories: U7, U9, U11, U13, U15 and U17, Boys and Girls separately. The tournament was played according to the Swiss System in 9 rounds, with the time control of 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game, plus 30 seconds increment per move starting from move one.
